I don't have cable or satellite. I have always loved to read. I generally try to read a book a week. I generally read fiction - this is my "television" or getaway time.
Below are some of my favorite or recent reads. Disclaimer - I usually forget authors - so let me know if you are interested in one, you can borrow or I can get author for you.
Upcoming: Divergent, Insurgent
Now Reading: Harry Potter Series (currently on Book 5) and A Year of Living Biblically by AJ Jacobs (a year of living by the Bible - literally).
Shades of Grey - Trilogy - I don't think they could turn this book into a movie that would be less than NC-17. I was shocked by how sexually graphic it was - but obviously it didn't keep me from reading all 3 (I just had to know how it ended).
Discovery of Witches/Shadow of Night - great adult book about witches and vampires - book 3 to be released later this year and I am getting that one the day it releases!
Red Tent - one of my top 5 reads. It is a historical fiction based on the story of Leah, Rachel, and Dinah (think Bible story). Absolutely recommend it to any woman.
Twilight Series - books are better than the movie - what female doesn't see herself as less than perfect? what female doesn't want a more than perfect guy to fall head over heals for her? or better yet - 2 guys?
Hunger Game Series - I really liked this series, but I thought it declined from the first book. Movie is out in March - I am excited to see what they will do with it.
Maze Runner Series - 3 in this series - and really good. It is a young adult series - if you liked Hunger Games, you will like Maze Runner.
Stephanie Plum Series (think One for the Money movie) - there are now 19 books in this series so far. I love them. Stephanie Plum is a female bounty hunger in Jersey. She isn't good, she is lucky. She loves donuts and food. This series is in my top 5.
Virgin River Series by Robyn Carr (cheesy romance series) - very typical, formula romance. Guy meets girl. They resist each other. They fall in love despite the resistance or conflict. It is all set in the town of Virgin River which is a small town in the mountains. Total fluff books - but I enjoy fluff reading from time to time.
Devil in the White City - wow - a non-fiction that reads like fiction. I honestly knew nothing about the "White City" or the Chicago Fair that celebrated Columbus's discovery of America. During the fair there was a serial killer - I won't give away too much - but an excellent read. I am told they are making it into a movie - very excited about it!
Witch and Wizard Series (James Patterson) - 3 books - they were okay - don't run out and get them. I feel that there are a million supernatural books out now - nothing special or extraordinary here.
Are You There Vodka, It's Me, Chelsea - definitely an adult book - but laugh out loud funny. Probably in my top 10 favorites.
